Did not last long

Although this product does a good job and we enjoyed it, it died on us less than 6 months after we purchased it. It was only used a couple of times a week and I would have expected it to last much longer. We had to purchase a 2nd one and hope it lasts longer this time.

Works very well

We recently had to replace our toaster because one of the cats had knocked it to the floor when jumping onto the counter. While researching for a new one I came across the Back to Basics TEM500 Egg-and-Muffin 2-Slice Toaster and Egg Poacher. A clever idea but how useful would it be in practice? However, the price was right and there would be no problems returning it to Amazon, so I ordered it. After using it for a month here are my observations. 1. Toasting performance: excellent; it may be the best toaster I have owned. 2. Cooking a poached egg: excellent and very easy to do. 3. Cooking soft/hard boiled eggs: not as good. The shells need to be pierced and sometimes the cooked egg will ooze from the hole. The bottom of the supplied water measuring cup has an egg piercer. 4. A complete toast/poached egg/Canadian bacon sandwich: perfect. 5. Cleanup: very easy. Overall I am very pleased with the unit and would deinitely recommend it to others.

Very Good Customer Service

My wife and I bought this 2 slice version, and we liked it so much we gave it away and ordered the 4 slice model. We were disappointed when it arrived and the egg cooker didn't work. I called the company and then sent another one, no questions asked, without having to send the first in. Now we use it everyday to make delicious and healthy sandwiches. The only complaint is that the toaster doesn't make toast very dark, even on the highest setting, but it isn't bad, and you can put the toast in twice if it really bothers you. I would recommend this to everyone to make simple and delicious sandwiches.

Super Easy!

I am so glad I purchased this, not only is it super easy to use, but the egg made this way is much healthier than me frying it. The amount of water you put in determins how well your egg is cooked, but even with mine well done the muffin stays warm in the toaster. It's easy, convient, and healthier than going to McDonalds.

I'm ordering a second

I am not a gourmet or a breakfast food addict and I never feel comfortable around toasters or toaster ovens but I am missing this little device, after it died on me a couple of weeks ago. We had one of these for the past couple of years and, somehow, it turned me into a toast eater. My wife used the egg thing from time to time too so, when it stopped toasting, I felt that I needed a replacement and I am buying one today. On features: making eggs is moderately okay. I can't say much because I don't eat real eggs no more - cholesterol... you know? But it's good to know it's there and it doesn't bother anyone. The toast-making is easy and there is a nice knob that you can move from light to dark. I always select the darkest but my wife sets it somewhere in the middle. I don't know why. After a while, your toast pops up and you can eat it but if the slices are too small, it's sometimes hard to take them out and you better wait for a minute or you could burn your fingers. What does this thing have better than a regular toaster, other than the egg-processing part? It's the shape, I guess. I like things that are black and round and have a few buttons on them and I don't like appliances with a lot of shiny chrome. Did I mention that the one we bought a couple of years ago died on us? It did but... for $25... it's no big deal. I'm getting another one today and, if it lasts for 2 more years I'll be happy.
